FH Garden Club General Meeting                                                

Call to Order – 9:30

Business Reports:

January General Meeting Minutes approved.           1st Debbie Mikuta 2nd Robin Gale

Treasurer Report:  Eileen presented a balanced budget for January.

Beginning Balance: $5771.73          Balance 1/29/26:  5795.88

Correspondence Report:  Kathy sent a thank you note to Mark Ubanks, the January speaker.  She also sent a sympathy card to former member Olwen Jarvis, her husband Bill passed.

Barbara shared the results of the Member Interests and Volunteer Interests surveys.  This information is being used to schedule speakers and programs for next year, as well as helping you to become more involved in the Garden Club.  The survey is still active, so if you haven’t responded there’s still time.

Comment cards are available after each meeting.  The Board does review these and takes into consideration any suggestions.

Robin reported that the Nomination Committee is actively seeking nominations for three positions on next year’s Board.  President, 1st Vice President, and Treasurer.   If you would like to be considered or know of a member that you believe would be a great fit for any of these positions, please nominate them using the forms available at the meeting or reach out to Robin Gale.  We appreciate your consideration and input!

Priority Reminders:  The speaker for the March 9th General Meeting is Ruth Weld.  We have the opportunity to make a mason jar flower arrangement with her, as she guides us through the art of flower arranging. If you would like to participate in this “teach and take” the cost is $30 dollars and you need to contact Lori Walker ([email protected]) by March 1stYou DO NOT have to make an arrangement to participate.  You will be able to watch and learn techniques to try on your own.  You are encouraged to come to the meeting, as we will have lots of information to share during the business portion.

Proposed Change to the Bylaws:

The Board decided to add the position of Past President.  The outgoing president would serve on the Board the following year as a mentor to the incoming president.  This non- elected position would only be for one year, and would not include voting rights on Board decisions.  We will vote on this proposed change at the March 9th General Meeting.

The Proposed changes are:

Add Board of Directors Position – Past President

Article VII – Officers

•Section 1: The officers of the Club shall be President, 1st VP, 2nd VP, Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer and Past President

•Section 3: The Duties of the officers are as follows

ADD H: The Past President shall assist the current President in the discharge of duties. 

This is a one-year position held by the immediate past president

This is a “non-elected” position

This is an advisory position without voting rights

Article VIII – The Board

Section 2: The Board of Directors shall consist of President, 1st VP, 2nd VP, Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer and, as described in Article VII: section 3H, Past President

At the end of the meeting, Rebecca Taylor, from Bloom by Taylor Creekside, presented an opportunity to join a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) subscription opportunity for fresh flowers and greenery delivered to you on a regular schedule.  If you would like to participate or need more information, please contact Barbara Paulsen.

Upcoming Events:

March 9th: Make and take mason jar flower arrangement, during general meeting. Must have signed up and paid.  Even if not making an arrangement please still plan on attending meeting, LOTS of info to share.

March 19th:  High Tea at the Harbour Club. Cost $20 and spots still available to sign up at the March 9th meeting.

April 23rd: Garden Club Day Trip. Tour Pitt Co. Arboretum, lunch at the Scullery, and Plant & See.  Carpool available and no cost other than what you choose to spend.  Sign up happening now!

May 5th:  FH Garden Tour. Committee is excited to be planning and firming up details for a FOUR Garden Tour! Information will continue to be shared at the March general meeting.

Be ready to VOTE on the Bylaw Change and sign up for all the amazing upcoming events!
