FHGC General Mtg. Minutes April 13, 2026
Call to Order: 9:30
Welcome Guests: Denise McGarry, Nikki Fifer, Barbara Mellor, Pat Merris, and returning member Pam Kubik.
Speaker: Diane Willett shared “Secrets of the Spice Cabinet & Supermarket Remedies,” helping us to navigate simple self-care, utilizing herbal items we have at home or can easily find at our local store.
Ex: Black Pepper stimulates digestion and tones the lining of your intestines. Rubbing Apple Cider Vinegar on Red Ant bites, helps alleviate the ITCH and Sage infused tea can help reduce the occurrence of hot flashes!

Business Reports:
March General Mtg. Minutes approved. 1st Minta Fannon 2nd Debbie Mikuta
Corr. Secretary: Sent sympathy card to Cheryl McGaskill.
One of our speakers, Senior Gardening, Ethel Hess, has passed away.
Treasurer Report: Balanced Budget for March. In the GREEN – $826.12! Beginning Balance 2/28/26: $5817.94 Balance 3/28/26: $5953.95
Nomination Committee: We have a nomination for President, but we are still seeking interest/nominations for 1st and 2nd Vice President. Contact Robin if interested. [email protected]
We will vote for our new Board at the May Gen. Meeting on 5/11.
New Business:
Jan and Eileen asked for volunteers to help donate time/flowers/or money to the HOSPICE Fundraiser in May. The Garden Club is providing 12 center pieces to the event. If interested in providing flowers or putting the arrangements together, please join us in the Cape Lookout room in the Harbour Club on Friday May, 8th at 1PM. If available to help with delivery to the Convention Center on Tuesday May, 12th, please contact Eileen at [email protected] or Jan Reitzel. [email protected]
Barbara Paulsen asked if any members were interested in participating in the POA sponsored 4th of July Parade. Consensus, it is just TOO HOT! The GC will not be participating as a club this year.
Saturday April 25 from 2-4PM in the Community Center, Sharon will represent the Garden Club at the FACTS Club Fair, sponsored by POA. She needs one more person if you’d like to join Sharon, call her at 703-472-5389.
Scholarship Committee meeting Thursday at 1PM. However, there is currently only one qualifying entry, so Hazel will call committee members if a meeting is unnecessary.
Upcoming Events:
Garden Club Day Trip: Thursday 4/23/26 Guided tour of Pitt Co. Arboretum, lunch at the Scullery, and shopping at Plant and See Nursery in Winterville. Meet 8:15 AM Harbour Club parking lot.
FH Garden Tour: May 5th 1:00 check-in at the Community Center. 3:45 conclude final tour of Biondi Garden, then STAY for an afternoon social, with light refreshments, chatting with your fellow members about the overall experience.
Monday May 11th you won’t want to miss the MASTER GARDENER ROUNDTABLE, at our General Meeting. Start thinking of your questions and gather the combined knowledge of our FOUR very own GC Experts!! You can email questions to [email protected] and she will pass them along to the panel.
