Fairfield Harbour Garden Club’s Annual Scarecrow Contest will be held as part of the Fairfield Harbour Craft Fair on October 26 in the FH Community Center Parking Lot.

The Scarecrow Contest is held annually to raise funds to support the FHGC Scholarship Program. Each year a scholarship is awarded to a local (Craven or Pamlico county) student to support their continued education. Scholarship Program Information.

Teams must register prior to the event.  Deadline for registering a team is October 15, 2024.

Register your team online at FHGC SCARECROW CONTEST REGISTRATION FORM.  There is no cost to enter.

The Rules are easy:

  • Teams will be 2 – 4 people.  If more people want to be on a team, divide into 2 teams.  Teams may then work together if they wish (example: make a boy and a girl scarecrow; a dog and cat scarecrows, etc.)
  • Scarecrows will be no taller than 4 feet and include a pumpkin (Pumpkin may be real or fake, big or small).
  • Teams will provide a way to display the Scarecrow, either standing with a pole to stick in the ground or sitting in a chair. (FHGC Scarecrow Committee will provide chair if notified by October 21 a chair is needed.)
  • Scarecrows will be handmade (not store bought). (Shredded paper is a good filler.)
  • As scarecrows will be raffled off at the end of the event, no items on the scarecrow will be returned to the team.(Remember – this is a fund raiser to support the education of a local young person.)
  • Anyone in Fairfield Harbour may enter a scarecrow.  The Club invites other clubs and organizations within FH to enter a scarecrow.
  • Scarecrows must be at the FHGC Scarecrow Contest Booth in the Community Center Parking Lot by 8:30am on October 26, 2024, to get set up as the event begins at 9:00am.
  • Voting for the best scarecrow will be by purchased raffle tickets.  Tickets will be counted at 2:00pm.  The scarecrow with the most tickets will be the Winner of the Contest.  The scarecrows will then be raffled.  Winners of the raffled scarecrows will be notified by phone after tickets are counted and the winning tickets drawn.
