Fairfield Harbor Garden Club General Meeting Minutes
February 10th, 2025
President Barbara Paulsen called the meeting to order at 9:35 am.
There were 31 members attending. Barbara led the members in a Pledge of Allegiance.
She welcomed visitor Barb Fossett and the new members Terry Jo Parkin, Mary Cropper and Doris Dean.
Our speaker David Hite from the Tryon Palace Gardens gave members an informative presentation on Soil Cropping.
The January General Meeting Minutes were published on the Website and Secretary Yvonne Meissner asked for a motion of approval (Robin Biondi/Maury Thompson) which was carried.
Eileen Wagner reported that at the end of January, 2025, there was a balance of $4,082.60 in the checkbook.
Barbara reported that she had received the donation check for $1000.00 from Audrey Von Dollns’ estate towards the FHGC Scholarship Program. Babara read the appreciation letter from Audrey’s daughter. Information about the Scholarship (https://fhgardenclub.com/scholarship/) is posted on the FHGC Website. Members who know anyone who is eligible should encourage the student to apply.
Our Fairfield Harbor POA Gardener, Kate Castle, will be our speaker in March.
Kathy has all details put together for the May 6th Garden Club Day Trip to Carolina Home and Garden in Newport. The cost for the lecture and lunch is $25.00. There will be a sign-up sheet at the March General Meeting. Carpooling to Carolina Home and Garden will be arranged.
The Spring Tea is set for March 21st. Members need to contact the Benjamin Ellis House Bed and Breakfast for reservations for the event. Early reservations are recommended as the event has a limit of 20 persons. All details are posted on the FHGC Website. (https://fhgardenclub.com/afternoon-tea/)
Barbara will e-mail members the new FHGC Survey. She asked members for their participation so that the Board has up-to-date information to run the FHGC to meet the needs of its members.
Jan Reitzel asked members to join her in a new fundraiser project. She has 100 clay pots that need to cleaned in preparation for a day of painting. When completed, they will go up for sale at the April FH POA Parking Lot Sale. She had a sign-up sheet for phase one of this project.
Linda Gregg made an appeal to the members to volunteer at the Bridgeton Elementary School. Possibly help with a raised bed etc.
Barbara proposed that the board meet with the School’s Principal and her Activities Director at the next board meeting to get more information. Information about the project will be shared with the membership at the March General Meeting.
The next General Meeting will be on March 10th.
Lucille had a drawing for two pots of planted daffodils. The winners were Carolyn Berry and Pam Dion.
