Fairfield Harbor Garden Club General Meeting Minutes
March 10th, 2025
President Barbara Paulsen called the meeting to order at 9:29 am.
There were 52 people attending. Barbara led the members in a Pledge of Allegiance.
She welcomed visitors Donna Ross, our new member, and guests Olwen Jarvis, Lyn Hurst, Arlene Garman, Shirley Lynn and Siobhan Sheehan.
Our speakers were Kate Castle and Will Caudle who gave members an informative presentation explaining his mode in keeping Fairfield Harbor Greenway and Garden areas green and beautiful. He was entertaining and gave valuable information on local garden issues.
They were followed by our Master Gardeners Panel (Jean Palladini, Hazel Alcock and Jane Haeussler) who answered questions and shared their knowledge with our members.
The February General Meeting Minutes was published on the Website and Secretary Yvonne Meissner asked for a motion of approval (Minta Fannon/Jenny McDiarmid) which was carried.
Eileen Wagner reported that at the end of February, 2025, there was a balance of $4,851.66 in the checkbook.
Correspondence Secretary, Kathy Hallquist reported that she had sent a Thank-You note to Holly for the donation from Audrey Von Dolin, a Get-Well card to Beverly Myrseth and a Sympathy card to Lucille Durst upon the death of her daughter-in-law.
Kathy had a sign-up sheet for the May 6th Garden Club Day Trip to Carolina Home and Garden in Newport. There is a deadline of April 21st to sign up for participation.
The Spring Tea is set for March 21st. Members need to contact the Benjamin Ellis House Bed and Breakfast for reservations for the event. Early reservations are recommended as the event has a limit of 20 persons. All details are posted on the FHGC Website.
Jan Reitzel has set a date for the clay pot cleaning day to be April 4th. Members who plan to join her in her driveway for the event need to bring brushes etc.
Barbara thanked members for their participation in the FHGC Survey. She received 40 responses and shared some of the great ideas at the Board Meeting.
She told the members that the Nominating Committee is seeking to fill the Board opening positions of Second Vice President and Secretary and reminded members that nominations may be made for these positions by any member. Nomination form is at https://fhgardenclub.com/nomination-form/
Lucille Durst had 2 Gerber Daisies and a Garden Bag (that was donated by Sandy Riggs) to give out as door prizes. The winners were: Minta Fallon, Jane Haeussler and Cindy Pollotta.
The next General Meeting will be on April 12th to be held at Latham Whitehurst Park. After a short business meeting Dr. Tom Glasgow will lead the members through the park with discussion.
